Porsche 914

Porsche, 914, Silver, Autumn

The Porsche 914 was the result of a collaboration between Porsche and Volkswagen (VW), and it was first introduced at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September 1969. It was a mid-engined sports car, which means that the engine was placed right behind the passenger seats, a solution that favors handling and agility as a result of optimal weight distribution. Such a layout led to a 2-seater with a removable fiberglass Targa top that, once removed, could be saved in one of the two luggage compartments, the back one. The two storage spaces were very much needed, since the seating area was strictly dedicated to the passengers. Interior trim was quite basic. Overall dimensions were compact, with a slanted front that incorporated pop-up headlights operated by two electric motors. The design was not pleasant, and it drew criticism also from the press.

The 914 was equipped with the 1.7-liter (1,679 cc), air-cooled, 4-cylinder fighter engine derived from the VW 411E. The 914/6 instead featured the same 2.0-liter (1,991 cc), 6-cylinder, air-cooled, flat Porsche engine which was originally mounted on the Porsche 911T. The VW engine, equipped with Bosch D-Jetronic fuel-injection system, produced 80 hp at 4,900 rpm while the Porsche unit, outfitted with Weber carburetors, produced 110 hp at 5,800 rpm. Both vehicles were outfitted with a 5-speed manual transmission as standard (“dog-leg” shift pattern with the first gear positioned left and rear ). Both cars featured the same independent suspensions. The 914s were fitted with solid disc brakes all around, but at the 914/6, front discs were ventilated. In ideal 1970s style, the 914s were painted in bold, bright colours such as orange, yellow and green.

However, the cheaper 914/4 sold better than the 914/6, but just when maximizing the Porsche name. In actuality, marketing of the 914 wasn’t the same worldwide. The 914 was marketed as a”VW-Porsche” and marketed through Volkswagen dealers everywhere, except in the U.S. where it was marketed as a”Porsche” and sold through Porsche’s dealers only. The European 914s carried the”VW-Porsche” logo on the back, near the model number (“914″ or”914-6”), while the American 914s displayed only the model number on the back. No matter where it was marketed, the 914 did not have the Porsche crest on its hood. Certainly, being presented solely as a Porsche was valuable to the image of the 914, which sold particularly well in the U.S. (roughly 70 percent of the 914 production was sold here).

Though the 914/6 was undoubtedly the better actress, its sales were not satisfactory. Its price tag was simply too high for an entry-level sports car. As a result, its production was phased out in 1972.

In 1973, with the 914/6 gone, a new version was introduced in addition to the”foundation” 1.7-liter 914: the 914 2.0-liter. The 914 2.0 was particularly welcomed in the U.S., considering that due to the local emission demands the energy on the 1.7-liter 914 had been cut down to 72 hp. Moreover, in 1973, the gearbox shift linkage that had been often criticized was improved with the introduction of a side-shifter.

For the 1974 model year, the 1.7-liter engine was raised to 1.8-liter (1,795 cc). Additionally, both 914s were equipped with front and rear bumpers featuring protruding rubber guards which could withstand impacts up to 8 km/h (5 mph).

In 1976, the final year of production of the 914, the car was only available from the U.S., which had always been the stronger market for this specific model. In its last year of production the 914 was available only in the 2.0-liter edition.

Today the Porsche 914 can provide loads of fun, such as open-air driving on a reasonable budget (4-cylinder versions). Among its best qualities is that the weight reduction, as a result of this mid-engine configuration, which favorably affects its handling. The 4-cylinder engines are quite economical in terms of Raccoon Poop, and thanks to some good availability of used Porsche 914 parts they’re also a lot more affordable to repair and maintain than Porsche’s 6-cylinder units, which, on the other hand, provide an even more pleasing driving experience.

Chrysler’s History

Chrysler, Carlisle, Fifth Avenue

An American-based automaker, its current headquarters is in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

Short History of the Chrysler

The company was founded by Walter Chrysler has originated from Maxwell Motor Company when the company was reorganized. Walter Chrysler came to the company during its lowest point; it gave birth to the now well recognized Chrysler automobile corporation. Its first product was a 6 cylinder car with exceptional innovations packed in it. Some of these developments were its hydraulic brakes which were chiefly developed by Chrysler himself but improved by Lockheed. He was also known for designing the ridges of the rims in the wheels which prevented flat tires from coming from the wheel. This was subsequently adapted by most of automobile companies globally. Additionally, what made the automobiles of Chrysler customer friendly was due to the astonishingly low reasonable price.

In the year 1928, Chrysler began segregating its automobiles according to their functions in addition to price. The Plymouth was created to function low-priced automobiles. The DeSoto, back then was made to sell medium-priced cars. Additionally, the Dodge automobile business was bought from the Dodge brothers to serve with high-priced cars.

Another brand branch, the Imperial, was used to compete with specific top-of-the-line companies like Cadillac and Lincoln. It primarily made cars with V8 engines and automatic transmission. But, in 1973 Imperial was consumed by Chrysler Corporation. Also, the brand Valiant was introduced in the 1960s. This was formerly a version of the Plymouth, and then the DeSoto made it also.

Jeep was acquired from them; this brand served off-road vehicles, pickup trucks, as wells as SUVs.

The Daimler- Chrysler Merger

In the year 1997, Chryslers then CEO Bob Eaton left a speech that would have consisted of a few of the very worrying words.” … there may be a perfect storm brewing” this phrase caught the eye of each employee and team in the auditorium. He figuratively stated that there was a cold front of overcapacity; a nor’easter that conveyed retail revolution which empowered buyers; and a hurricane that represented a growth in the environmental awareness that consequently threatened the industry of search motors. These statements were taken by Eaton in the book”The Perfect Storm”, he also said that the lesson of this book told him that when there’s a storm coming, you must nowhere near the storm area, and you must not be lonely. These were the wise words Bob Eaton uttered in front of the crowd.

Another automobile company, Damier-Benz, was also struggling in the U.S. Only 1% of cars in the United States belong to the company at that time. The provider’s CEO decided they need to find another company to merge with. And the perfect match they found was Chrysler Corporation.

After some time, and a great deal of discussions and business meetings, Bob Eaton announced they were merging with Damier-Benz. Nearly reaching $37 billion, this was the largest trans-Atlantic merger ever made. Jürgen Schrempp, Damier-Benz’s CEO coined the term”merger of equals” as they and Chrysler shared the same hardships during that time, and that it would be of an advantage if the merger materialized.

However, as time passed by, the merger was demonstrated to be a failure. Chrysler was dissatisfied with the new company’s performance and its fair profit. Particular differences arose with the managers of both companies. They would throw words at each other; many Daimler-Benz executives stated they would never drive a Chrysler; while Chrysler managers uttered that the Jeep Grand Cherokee earned more than the Mercedes M-Class.

The president of Chrysler throughout the calendar year 2000 described this feud as a’marrying up, marrying down’ situation. The firm Damier- Benz was mostly recognized by its own luxury cars and was considered as a business that sells fancy and trendy cars; while the Chrysler were especially made for moderate to low level cars. This idea created an invisible tension between the American and the German employees of the merged company. Many German staffs would even argue that they were being given a salary less than the Americans were getting; they even described the salary of the counterparts as 4 times bigger than theirs. Even Chrysler’s CEO Bob Eaton eventually succumbed to the situation and began showing signs of withdrawal and depression; he would not speak to his employees when requested to, or would not initiate motivation when needed.

Chrysler Now – A Comeback

Today, Chrysler has performed well in the automotive sector. It’s been ranked by the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers as 2010s 13th biggest vehicle manufacturers in the whole world.

Other Ventures

During the World War II, Chrysler has also fabricated several vehicles and other goods to best serve the U.S. military. They made exceptional Chrysler tanks in contrast to Ford or General Motors. They also made engines for planes such as jet engines. Missiles were also manufactured through their company such as the medium- range ballistic missile named PGM-19 Jupiter.

With its new tagline”Imported from Detroit”, Chrysler offers many advanced cars that would serve not just Americans, but everybody. Now, Chrysler still serves not only the U.S. community, but also the different states that appreciate the long history of the automobile company. With its ups and downs, it was able to survive many economic busts and depressions. Chrysler has definitely established its foundations; and it is going to definitely be staying in the auto industry for several years.

Gotta love those beetles

Classic Car, Design, Vintage, Retro

The Volkswagen Beetle or Volkswagen Type 1 had a mythical long production run globally, and remains highly desired among VW enthusiasts.

The Beetle is one of most popular models of the Volkswagen family and has had a major impact on popular culture in america. Even though the creation of Type 1 has ended globally, the love for the little Bug has still been thriving through pop culture.

Bugs from the Movies

The Classic Beetle has been observed in several Hollywood films through the years and has made a massive impact on family films. The Bug has played important roles in the Disney”Herbie” movies from 1968 to 2005 and has also been observed in the 2006 Disney movie Cars. The Bug was shown some love as it was given anthropomorphic characteristics that made it seem human with emotions and personalities. This comes to show that the timeless Type 1 is seen more than just a car, but a friend.

In the United States, Volkswagen enthusiasts host their annual VW themed-car shows through the summer months and show their VW love for the Bug. Loyal VW lovers travel more than 500 miles just to participate in these events. These car shows feature programs like the”show’n’ shine”, parts swap meet, vintage Bug accessories raffles, engine blasts, and other events. These large car shows give Beetle lovers community and excitement, which is exactly what the Bug is all about. A stroll around the event’s grounds will give you an appreciation for the imagination, wit, and charm that’s showcased in these small cars as they are displayed.

Type 1 Means Number 1

The Bug was considered a cult favorite since its association hippies and surfers in the 1960s because of it eccentric design and low price. In 1972, VW released a commercial to advertise the Beetle, which showed it floating on water thanks to its sealed steel bottom and watertight structure in spite of the 13 pounds of paint. Due to its construction the vehicle is considered one of the most influential cars of the 20th century. Volkswagen enthusiasts are eager to restore their Bugs, and while many make theirs a house garage project, others are known to invest in excess of $100,000 on a restoration.

The Classic Volkswagen Beetle has made an impact on Hollywood movies, cultural entertainment and automobile construction. No wonder it remains a classic steel icon.

Lamborghini’s Start

Luxury Sports Car, Lamborghini

Lamborghini was founded in 1963 with a northern-Italian guy named Ferruccio Lamborghini, who had previously served as a mechanic in the Italian Royal Air Force during the Second World War. His earliest business ventures found him construction tractors with leftover materials from wartime armoury supplies for a business he named Lamborghini Trattori S.p.A. His success in the agricultural sector meant that his company became one of the biggest suppliers of farming equipment in all of Italy. Efore long Lamborghini was branching out into different areas, such as gas heating and air-conditioning manufacture.

Lamborghini’s new found wealth led him to purchase many sport automobiles, but he entered the business after making a complaint about one of the Ferraris he bought. In response to his concern He had been advised that as a tractor maker he was uneducated in sports car designs and therefore unable to make such a decision. This insult caused him to act decided that he was deliberated for a while, namely his settlement to move in the manufacturing of supercars.

Before the Lamborghini Corporation was founded, Lamborghini had determined that the revered engineering company, Società Autostar, would be responsible for producing V12 engine vehicles which could challenge the vehicles Ferrari were making using celebrated engineer Giotto Bizzarini being the mastermind of those new engine designs. Lamborghini wanted to focus his business just as much on domestic supercars as racing ones and was ultimately not pleased with the finished designs Bizzarrini gave himas he felt that the engine’s revolutions were too large, giving them the specific kind of sports car power that he wanted to avoid. Bizzarrini refused to change the layouts which resulted in Lamborghini denying him the fee they agreed on.

The company’s first major vehicle was the 350GTV which Lamborghini built and designed himself. It was unveiled in the 1963 Turin Motor Show. However, as a result of the dispute with Bizzarrini, the production of the automobile was delayed, and when it was actually got displayed there was rather embarrassingly no engine underneath the hood, with bricks being used to create the illusion of the engine’s weight.

Since Lamborghini’s popularly escalated, the business moved to larger grounds, a facility in the Italian city of Sant’Agata Bolognese, close to the country’s thriving industrial area. The region was selected as Lamborghini’s new residence since the city’s communist party promised the company a 19% interest rate on all banked finances with zero tax on the profits if Lamborghini would allow all their factory employees to become union members.

The final supercar was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in 1964 to widespread acclaim, and by the end of that year Lamborghini was steadily selling the car, albeit with some monetary losses that occurred due to Lamborghini’s need to compete with the prices at Ferrari. By the time production of the 350GT ended in 1965, 120 of the cars had been purchased.

The Rat Rod

Drag, Racing, Truck, Diesel, Race

It’s typically a coupe or roadster and may also be a truck or sedan derived of the period that stretches from the 1920s through the late-1950s. The bodies were exquisite bits of channeled and sectioned; the roofs were chopped.

The”Rat Rod” first came into prominence when it was apparent that a new sub-culture had captured hot rod fever. This rebellious sect of car lovers turned their back on the over-priced customs and built vehicles which were a throwback to a more classic period. While the regulars scoffed at the upstarts for their derisive style and approach, these rodders instilled freshness in the hot rod world.

Through time, the two distinct peaks of pole enthusiasts have taken a stand. 1 group with their influx of cash has continued to buy classic cars and have them assembled according to personal taste and specifications. For the most part, these classics aren’t supposed to be driven, but to be placed on display for show. The other group of rodders have assembled their muscle cars and ripped down the road at full speed impressing one and all.

A further division of the two groups is found in the form of style that each one supports. The traditional car owner have their hot rods or custom cars re-created to precision or period-corrected restoration to connect to a car of some specific era. A rat rod imitates and sometimes exaggerates the ancient sticks of the 1940s, 1950s and early 1960s with customized variants.

Another version is derived from the rat bikes which were assembled like Frankenstein machines much like the first hot rods were put together in Southern California to race onto the salt flats. It was not a long jump to go from rat bike to rat rod in order to provide the”beater” another name.

What Does A Rat Rod Look Like?

Aside from the lack of paint, cheap upholstery and no chrome or shine what else does a rat rod possess? The chassis are usually taken from the frames of trucks and light trucks because they are easier to convert. Another advantage is taking a part from a wreck is cheaper and it is extremely apparent that many owners of rat rods are lower income enthusiasts.

The rough finish that includes a lack of proper glossy paint includes rust, rust and bullet holes, which make the rat rod an immediate centerpiece of conversation. No matter how much money an owner possesses or spends, the ultimate objective is to have others speak about their car. The focus is relished.

So as to continue and fit the degenerate appearance of the interior, the exterior is sparsely furnished with bomber chairs and Mexican blankets. It is a far cry from the rich, plush interiors of these classic car owners that spare no expense. However, despite the rag-like look, rat rodders are as boastful of the machines as are those with much more expensive vehicles.

The Rat Rod has gained prominence in every corner of the hot rod building world. Many enthusiasts have embraced the simplistic form not so much as a way of being rebels, but since they’re easy to develop and one is permitted to add many distinct kinds of personal touches. It is this ability to customize a car on a completely individual basis that is the magnet which entices so many.

What are some of those individual markings? Among the major one is that the finish of the car. The lack of paint allows the owner to create whatever her or his imagination can conjure. This includes stripes, designs such as skulls or crossbones, personal numbers or insignia and everything under the sun.

Some creators have left the rat rod without any paint except for one special line or scatter in order to complete the totally personal invention. These people have taken the basic concept of owning and building a hot pole, which is fun into a different dimension.

The upholstery is also another point of creation which allows the individual to go a little crazy and wild. There are patterns of zebra material or the imitation of some other animal, different kinds of comfy seats including lazy boy chairs, in addition to other tastes that would never be found in a classic car that’s strictly for show.

The Rat Rod is here to remain. There is a strong camaraderie of proud owners who believe that the throwback design is much more humble than the polished, expensive classic automobiles, but just as important in their own way. In a world where everything gets more expensive many hot rod enthusiasts must cut corners and build machines which could tear down the street without looking pretty.

What makes Jumk Cars so Profitable

Car, Rusty, Rusted, Decay, Abandoned

For sure, you have asked yourself more than once why crap car buying has ever been a flourishing business not only to a single part of the Earth, but in many places. There are countless of reasons, actually. However, we cannot rely on them one by one especially in a very restricted space like this – like a 500-word or so article. As we are witnessing in the business today, it is continually active and striving. What junk car buying businesses could do to old cars is really up to their prerogative, but for sure they could do many things to those parts of waste – waste that for others seem to be of no use. Superior thing people earn cash for cars nowadays. It’s a mutual relationship from junk car owners, and to company owners. Everyone gets their well-deserved benefit.

Environmental-friendly

Some businesses face many controversies. Others even reach the point of dealing with street demonstrations and protests of broken environment advocates complaining about one issue to another. But because the buying and selling of used cars are environmental-friendly in character, they get a nod from organizations that try to maintain and protect Mother Nature generally. Why wouldn’t they? Such businesses are support the three significant Rs of environment protection – reuse, reduce and recycle.

Now, think of becoming an advocate for the same cause. You do it by selling your old automobile when getting cash for old cars.

Fast Transaction

Aside from the industry’s positive contribution to a environmental causes, there’s also another thing which makes junk car buying and selling a hit. Well, mostly for the benefit of those who have old cars ready for resale, they make money for used cars in the fastest way possible and in the most appropriate of rates.

Here’s the deal! Before the payment is delivered along with the towing is executed, one can easily get a free quote through a phone conversation immediately after the telephone digits are dialed. Talk about expediency! That’s what this business offers. No wonder it does deliver.

Futuristic

Now, what exactly does futuristic mean in the sub-title? No one is talking about aliens here. It is actually about the business’s adaptive ability to keep up with the ever fast-changing trends in the auto industry and its ability to continue reviving itself every so often. This is actually the very reason why more and more people are invited to sell their old cars to junk sites. The growth of the automobile industry is reason enough for the big boom. On the other hand, old car owners get cash for used cars in return.

Now, you won’t have to ask yourself about the reason of this business’ success. Aside from the money for older cars earned by the people who opt to sell their old vehicles, it is also made clear in the examples mentioned above that the crap car buying and selling industry gives more than one contribution to not only a few areas of the community, but to most.

Lotus

Auto, Lotus, Vehicle, Sports Car

An overview of The Lotus Elite Sports Car, covering development, important features, and technical information of this the inaugural version in the Lotus range.

In this Article, I offer a nostalgic look at the Lotus Elite, among an elite group of classic cars, which was fabricated during the period 1957 to 1962.

In 1956, Colin Chapman created the Lotus Elite sports car for a street car, in the first case.

The first two door, two seater prototype was presented in the 1957 Earls Court Motor Show in London.

Following its debut, the Elite spent a further year undergoing a programme of development before production.

It was the very first production car to be built with a fibreglass monocoque construction.

It succeeded the Lotus Seven, with its sheet metal body and tubular space frame chassis.

On the other hand, the Elite was a trendy, fixed head coupe, with a drag coefficient of just 0.29, which was astonishingly low for this time.

Also known as the Lotus 14, it was launched in 1959, and has been conceived as a competition sports car.

The standard version used an aluminium, 1216 cc, directly 4-cylinder, overhead cam, Coventry Climax engine, creating 71 bhp, and with a single SU carburettor.

It had four wheel, 9.5 inch Girling disc brakes, without servo assistance, had a top speed of 113 mph, and a 0-60 mph time of 13.2 secs.

The four wheel independent suspension used coil springs in the front, and a form of MacPherson strut at the rear. The steering was by Rack and Pinion.

A higher performance, special equipment (SE) version was introduced in 1960, also featured a ZF gearbox, two SU carburettors, and a modified exhaust manifold, which developed 85 bhp.

This was followed by the Elite Super 95 variant, which developed 95 bhp from a greater tuned engine, with a higher compression ratio, and a modified camshaft.

Limited edition variants included the Super 100 and Super 105 models, fitted with two, twin choke Webber 40DCOE carburettors, developing 130 bhp and 137 bhp respectively, and made specifically for racing.

The Elite used a glass reinforced plastic (GRP) monocoque body structure, together with the front part of the construction incorporating a steel subframe, which affirmed the engine and front suspension.

Maximar Mouldings, a well known boat builder, have been given the initial contract to construct the first 250 body structures, giving rise to the Series 1 Elite.

This used a single SU carburettor, had a compression ratio of 10.0:1, and gave an overall fuel consumption of 40 mpg.

As a consequence of early difficulties, this work was then handed over to the Bristol Aeroplane Company, who produced both a lighter and more powerful structure, which was designated the Series 2.

This model was fitted with two SU carburettors.

The Series 2 featured an improved rear suspension, with upgrades being made to the interior panels, as well as increasing the level of engine tuning.

However, there were early failures in Bristol in relation to the mounting points for the differential and rear suspension, but these were soon rectified with the addition of metal reinforcements in the weak points.

Subsequently, production methods were refined so that these inserts were no longer required.

However, the problems related to GRP were, at the moment, still not fully understood, with the consequence that it was not uncommon for the suspension attachment points to pull away in the fibreglass structure.

Further, a number of components situated in the drivetrain were exposed to high levels of stress, which necessitated regular re-greasing.

The Elite was offered as a kit car, which was considered as a mistake for a business regarding itself as a quality manufacturer.

It has been estimated that Lotus dropped #100 on each Elite built, because of the fact that the car was underpriced, quality control was poor, and the production process was too expensive for a business that has been, in effect, underfunded.

Its racing accomplishments included six Class wins at the Le Mans 24 hour race, and two wins at the Index of Thermal Performance.

Maybe this stroll down memory lane might have answered, or at least shed light on, a possible question:

Which Morgan Sports Car is Your Favorite?

However, should this question still remain unanswered, I will be reviewing, in some detail, in future content in this website, the entire variety of Morgan sports cars which were featured in the unforgettable era spanning 1911 to 1996.

Gotta love that Benz

Mercedes, Daimler, Auto, Pkw

And if you do not have wheels worthy of a king then likely you’re not a king! And this is the reason why you will need to put money into a car which will not only get you from point A to B but will provide you a lot more than that. This,’more’ literally translates into barbarous and raw motor power and luxury at its finest!

So in the event you will need to get from point A to B in style, then you want to invest in a Mercedes. Because their automobiles are unlike any automobiles by any other manufacturer! Plus gone are the days when they used to manufacture cars that just a few people could afford since today they make cars which range from affordable to high end luxury.

Listed below are a few of the best selling cars

•A-Class: This compact car could perhaps be known as one of the most affordable! And it provides a direct competitor to BMW 1 series and the Audi A3. This car comes in various different engine specs which range from the effective A180 to the strong A 45 AMG.

And like its younger brother it’s also available in a number of different engine specifications which could supply you with amazing fuel efficiency or heart racing and brain numbing acceleration!

•C-Class: Among the maximum selling executive sedan from the German maker, the C-Class redefines what luxury and power mean altogether! And if you would like something which does not burn a hole in your pocket then pick the diesel C180 or if you’re searching for raw, brutal, mind numbing powers then you will need to get the AMG edition! All those 500 horses will set your heart racing.

Yup, that is true because the quantity of luxury items that this SUV has is mind numbing. But if you purchase the AMG edition then the motor and the raw energy that it generates will be mind numbing because this V8 supercharged is capable of generating more than 500 horse power.

This was a list of some of the cars and that if money was no object, which one would you buy?

Differentiating Warblers

Pine Warbler, Warbler, Bird, Wildlife

Warbler migration season is upon us, and with over 50 species of warblers, you’re almost certain to see a few of these brightly colored birds. Classified as wood warblers, household paruleda, about half of its abundant species reside in North America.

Seeing is one thing, but knowing what you are looking and listening to is most, if not all, of the struggle. I’ve experienced the joy of seeing a new bird, just to be obscured by the frustrating reality that I had no idea exactly what I saw. The following five categories are essential to bird identification:

Size
Shape
Color
Audio
Behavior and Habitat
Let us have a deeper look at each one.

Size: They’re big on audio, but warblers are small in stature.

Many are small, and plump, usually sporting a shorter tail like this blackpoll warbler.

Yellow Rumped Warbler

Insect eaters, all warblers have a short, pointy, tweezer-like bill, which aid in their adroit picking and plucking of food.

The ovenbird and both waterthrushes are a part of the wood warbler family, as are redstarts, yellowthroats and chats.

Color: Two thirds of North American warblers have yellow markings, ranging from bright yellow on most of the body like an American goldfinch in spring and summer, to pale yellow shading on different parts of the body similar to the colors of an American goldfinch in winter. Other common colors include mixtures of white and black, dark-to-bluish gray or blue and white, and in only a couple instances smaller chestnut-to-orange markings.

Audio: After listening to over 40 warbler calls, I believe I can safely categorize them into two major categories; tunes and chirp/trills.

The most significant identifiers of a warbler voice is that it is very high-pitched, and almost without exception, like the squeaky sound of a yellow rubber duck. The blackburnian warbler is the best example of this. Have a listen: Blackburnian Warbler Call

Whether tune or chirp, the warbler’s communication is very fast, often with short little sounds strung together, and complicated in nature. Many warbler calls seem to be trying to urgently tell you something important, or talking. While most of the chirps and trills are sharp and clear with a flute-like pure quality, many of their tunes will have a buzzing aspect to it, typically at the start or end.

Some exceptions to songs with a buzz comprise the following warblers; Canada, chestnut-sided, Connecticut, Grace’s, hooded, Kentucky, Lucy’s and Nashville.

Behavior and Habitat: This is perhaps the most overlooked, but in my estimation, one of the most valuable Bird identification categories. It automatically eliminates dozens of birds, by the simple truth they’re region-specific. The habitat preferences are as vast and diverse as the warblers themselves. From ground dwellers and trunk crawlers to evergreen nesters and canopy tree-top fans, a one-size-fits all habitat doesn’t define or confine a warbler. 1 thing you can be certain of is their insect-eating behavior with picking and poking action.

If you’re not sure what this might look like, simply observe a Northern cardinal for a few minutes, and you’re going to have a excellent idea. Apparently nervous, warblers don’t stay in one place very long. If you’re fortunate enough to observe one on a branch for a while, they will quickly turn their mind or body watching their surroundings from every angle, for predators no doubt. Frequently they do not sit still and will flit from branch to branch in a tree, or between trees close in proximity.

Warblers are found mostly in the eastern states and Canada in the summer and spend their winters in Central and South America. With the exception of the yellow, warblers are almost non-existent at the Central Plains, most likely because of its wide open, treeless landscape. Only a small handful is found on the West Coast and in West Central region.

If You Cant Beat Them, Enjoy Them

Squirrel, Common Squirrel, Eating

Squirrels are a nuisance. They get into the garbage and birdfeeders. They build nests in the most irritating areas of the garage, attic and eaves. The biggest nuisance of all is if they”swear” at you when you come and go from your own house.

There are several ways to discourage them:

Put a baffle or squirrel guard on bird feeder poles.
Make certain the bird feeders are at least squirrel-jumping distance away from trees and perches.
Use metal garbage cans and bird feeders rather than plastic which they can chew through.
Use a spring loaded perch bird feeder set so it will not open with the weight of the squirrel.
Use live traps to move them to another area.
Use squirrel repellents such as chili powder, red peppers or cayenne sprinkled in which you need them to stay away.
Put chicken wire over your flowerbeds (coated with a light dusting of dirt) to keep them from digging up your bulbs.
Find the holes where they’re getting in and patch them up.
All of the work, I can tell you from experience. I will also tell you that when you try to keep them away from one area they invade another area. One night I came home to find a dead squirrel in our toilet. He crawled down the drain vent stack thinking it was an interesting place to build a nest, swam into the restroom and then panicked when he discovered the toilet seat down until he drowned. I still think about all the fun my cat and dog could have had if the chair was up – and my family still teases me about crying my head off when I discovered it!

You do have to admire the little rodents.

They can pull a tortilla through a quarter inch hole in a garbage bag and keep it in one piece.
They are aware that the dog can not chase them past the fence and the cat can not get them through the display, so they can swear at them all they need at a safe distance.
They are amazing acrobats that will try anything and chew through anything to get to food.
My ingenious husband came up with a plan to use their inquisitiveness against them. He wrapped empty coffee cans on trees spaced several feet apart (since squirrels are territorial) and place sunflower seeds in them to feed them.

That’s when we made the most amazing discovery. Should you feed them, they’ll leave other areas alone! They didn’t even make nests in our garage anymore; rather then made nests in the trees near the feeders.

Now I must warn you that you will need a coffee can feeder for every squirrel unless you want to obey them squabble all day long when another squirrel enters their territory. Screaming squirrels confuse the other animals and birds it’s a danger alarm and they stay away, which defeats the purpose of feeding the birds.

Soon we found that every squirrel had its own character. One squirrel ate so the sunflower shells fell outside the can. Another would grab a seed, eat on the rim of the coffee can with its rear the tree trunk so it could watch its domain name while it ate. Others preferred to hide inside or to peek out now and then like it was a soldier in a foxhole. We found squirrels even more entertaining than birds!

Speaking of amusement … squirrel feeders are a fun way for the furry court jesters to work for their dinner and”earn their keep”.

Put ears of dried corn on the end of a squirrel spinner or arrow feeder and enjoy watching them attempt to consume it.
Set a corn cob at the conclusion of a squirrel bungee.
Put nuts or seeds at a squirrel munch box where they need to open a lid to pull food out.
Extend a cable or cable from one tree to another so that they have to tightrope-walk to get to the food.
There are also cute corn cob feeders made to look like little picnic tables or adirondack chairs.
As they say, if you can not beat them – join them. We found that feeding the squirrels not only kept them out of trouble, but amused us as well. As an added bonus flying squirrels were visiting the feeders at night!
